Cozy home décor ideas this winter

October 20, 2020 · Updated June 19, 2026 Lena Ross

Cozy home decor

We’re going to be spending a bit more time in our homes this winter, so it’s worth taking some time to make your home a relaxing, peaceful, and cozy space.

Follow our tips for making your home warm and cozy.

Blankets & soft furnishing

The number one way to make your home cozier is with soft furnishings like blankets, throws and pillows. We love a soft and fluffy blanket to curl up under on a cold winter’s night, and it’s great to add texture to your home décor.

For an even cozier feel, why not make a personalized blanket? You can create a unique design with your photos for a soft blanket you’ll love to cuddle up to. Why not pick pictures of your loved ones and happy memories for a cozy personalized blanket that’ll make you feel warm inside.

Throw pillows are another great way to make your space cozy and comfortable. We love to mix and match colors and textures for a varied, cozy feel. Why not add a personal touch with some personalized cushions amongst some plainer designs.

Build Up Your Collection

Create a warm feeling

Warm tones are an easy way to create a cozy feel in your space. For winter, think about neutrals and rich tones like red, orange, and brown to create a sense of warmth. If these colors don’t appeal to you, think about which colors make you feel relaxed and comfortable and take inspiration from those. It’s your home, so take the time to make it work for you.

We love a roaring fire for the ultimate cozy winter vibes, but this isn’t always feasible. Get the ambience without the hassle by putting a video of a log fire onto your TV or laptop screen. Instant cozy feeling!

Candles and soft lighting

As the nights start drawing in, lighting is more important than ever. Create a cozy feeling when it’s dark outside by using soft lights rather than a harsh, bright light. Our favorites are candles, lamps and ambient lights.

You can find colored bulbs if you want to create a cool colored lighting look, or simply use a colored lampshade for a similar effect.

We love lighting candles to get us in a cozy mood. Pick a seasonal scent like warm cookies, vanilla, or winter spice to create a cozy, winter atmosphere.

If you’ve got kids running around, candles can be a no-no, so pick cute lamps or string lights instead to create a similar atmosphere.

Protect Your Walls

Pictures of loved ones

There’s no place like home. Home to us is not just a place but having the people we love around us. A home is filled with happy memories of being together, and even if that seems impossible right now, you can still fill your home with the memories and faces of your loved ones.

Create a photo wall of your favorite photo memories using photo tiles or canvas prints. Seeing the ones you love in pictures everyday will bring warmth and joy into your home.

Relive those moments of togetherness with a photobook of your best moments. There’s no feeling quite like the warm feeling of looking back at photos of your treasured memories. Keep your photobooks in pride of place on the coffee table so you can curl up on the couch and flick through your memories whenever you like.
